day eighteen (lisa)

In light of this big weekend in DC, I decided to post two pics today. The first is part of the aftermath of yesterday's Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.

And this one is from today's Marine Corps Marathon, which our friends ran and finished. This fellow is not our friend.

day seventeen (lisa)

day sixteen - fail

I forgot! I completely forgot to take a picture on day 16 and did not remember until I laid my head on the pillow at midnight. At which time I was not about to get back up and take a photo. Especially sad because we had at least 40 people in our house eating, drinking, carving pumpkins, and generally having a good time. There were plenty of photo ops...

day fifteen (lisa)

week 2 (Beth)

Random shots from my weekend off (yay for the daddy and kids camping trip!): this is on H Street NE near my house. It's historic, yet still (STILL) recovering from riots in 1968. I felt like this shot was kind of fitting.
The fountain outside Union Station: this is the way I usually end up framing things. Kind of boring, but I'm not sure what to do differently.... I loved her expression and the contrast of the stone and the blue sky, but I'm not sure I got either....
This is a little different, but I'm not sure I like it better. Thoughts? (Also, I can't edit my photos at all until we make some room on the c: drive.... would have liked to lose some of that head room....)
This is our middle child, Eudora. She's probably the most cooperative person in the house when it comes to hamming it up for the camera. She's wearing a princess dress, carrying her Mary Poppins umbrella and making a face that is supposed to remind us all of Bert, the chimney sweep. I just kind of liked the way this picture turned out....

day fourteen

I want one of those nice, path-in-the-fall-leaves photos, but it's just not happening...I feel like this sort of shot is all about composition and I have no idea where to begin.

day twelve

this was another day in which i did not touch my camera until after 9 pm. not exactly what i had in mind with this project, but i guess there'll be days like this. anyway, this photo is straight out of the camera - no editing at all. the color was just so bizarre that i had to pick this for the photo of the day.

day eleven (lisa)

this is my husband and daughter jumping from one rock to another while we were hiking. i caught them right in mid-air which should have made for a very cool photo. but it doesn't capture things the way i would have liked. not cutting off their heads would have been a good start. but also maybe shooting from a lower angle, so that the space below their feet was highlighted better? or just making sure the background was not distracting your view from the fact that their feet are off the ground? i would love to hear thoughts on this one.

day ten (lisa)

day nine (lisa)

we went camping this weekend, so i wasn't able to post photos as i was taking them. but i was taking them, so here they are...

week 1.5 (Beth)

Flado. Yes, I complain about him.
But, I have to admit, he's a good dog after all.

day eight (lisa)

I read last night that you can create sun flare by having a small aperture (large f-stop number). This picture is not perfect, and the angle at which you're shooting related to the sun seems to matter a lot, but it worked!

Frame to frame

These two shots of my son were just a frame apart. The difference in one second was a lot!

week 1 (Beth)

Week 1 with a prologue: this is from Boston a couple of weeks ago - the Holocaust Memorial...
also Boston - the fence around the Public Garden...
and Boston again - a traditional gravestone design, the "death's head".
And Week 1 for real - Lincoln Park, here in good ol' DC.

day four (lisa)

I am going to keep counting by days because if I get all the way to one hundred - or even fifty - I'm going to be pretty excited.

October 17 (Christina)

This is my friend Sarah and her little boy who was kind enough to encourage me in my photography today
